Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Percy Jackson & the Olympians is a series of books that give a modern twist to the well known stories of the greek gods. The Lightning Thief is the story of Poseidons half mortal son. Percy Jackson has always been different; ADHD and anger problems included. He lives with his mother in a trashy apartment with his step dad who he can't stand. His only friend, Grover, is handicapped and straight forward. Percy soon finds out that he is the son of Poseidon and is thrown into camp half-blood for protection. There he meets plenty of other half human, half god teenagers. His friend Grover, is actually is protector and has been protecting Percy from the very first day that they met. He is a satyr which is a half man, half goat. Percy soon finds out that he has the ability to develop powers given to him by his godly genes. He is also shocked to found out that he is the only son of Poseidon, therefore the only one in his dormitory at the camp. The camp is split up by which god or goddess you belong to. Most half-bloods are angry with their parents or don't understand why they aren't able to speak to their parents. Percy is upset that he had to leave his mother. After just a week of training Percy is sent on a mission to retrieve Zeus' lighting bolt which has been stolen. He goes through many different trials and tests before he finds out that the person who stole the lightning bolt was actually one of the students from the camp and Percy's friend. Percy overcomes his fear of using his power to retrieve the lightning bolt and returns it to Zeus' before a war broke out.

I always thought the movie seemed kind of stupid, but after reading this it makes me want to read the book. It sounds like it's pretty good, not like a little kids book like I used to think.
ReplyDeleteI love this movie. The modern twist that have is really good and not corny like you would assume it would be. I also am very interested in Greek mythology and I love that the movie plays in on that. You always read in books about how the gods came to earth and fancied humans and this move goes more into that specific part of mythology.
ReplyDeleteThe movie was great... until I read the book series. The charaters were much more developed in the books. I quickly got extremely attached to all of them. receiving that feeling shows quality writing.
