Welcome to My Life by Simple Plan

Do you ever feel like breaking down?
Do you ever feel out of place?
Like somehow you just don't belong
And no one understands you

Do you ever wanna run away?
Do you lock yourself in your room?
With the radio on, turned up so loud
That no one hears you screaming

No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels alright
You don't know what it's like, to be like me

To be hurt, to feel lost, to be left out in the dark
To be kicked, when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around

To be on the edge of breaking down
When no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life

Do you wanna be somebody else?
Are you sick of feeling so left out?
Are you desperate to find something more
Before your life is over?

Are you stuck inside a world you hate?
Are you sick of everyone around?
With the big fake smiles and stupid lies
Well deep inside you're bleeding

No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels alright
You don't know what it's like to be like me

To be hurt, to feel lost, to be left out in the dark
To be kicked, when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around

To be on the edge of breaking down
When no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life

No one ever lies straight to your face
And no one ever stabbed you in the back
You might think I'm happy but I'm not gonna be okay

Everybody always gave you what you wanted
You never had to work it was always there
You don't know what it's like, what it's like

To be hurt, to feel lost, to be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around

To be on the edge of breaking down
When no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like

To be hurt, to feel lost, to be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around

To be on the edge of breaking down
When no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like

Welcome to my life
Welcome to my life
Welcome to my life

This song describes exactly how I've been feeling these last couple of months, and it makes it even better that Simple Plan sings it. This is my favorite song to listen to when I'm driving down the road with my windows down, especially if I've had an awful day! The song is simply about a person who is angry and sick of being pushed around. I believe that he is describing his feelings so that everyone will know exactly what's going on in his life. My favorite line is when he says, "To be kicked when you're down." This is my favorite quote because sometimes it feels like that's what everyone is trying to do. What I like about this song as a whole is that he doesn't sugar coat anything, there isn't some big happy ending where some girl comes along and makes him feel better. It's simply letting people know what's going on and "welcoming" them to how he feels. When he's singing the song, you begin to feel the exact same way he does, which makes you feel sympathetic towards him. And of course, it kinda makes you feel the same way that he does. It really hits home for me when he says, "to be on the edge of breaking down" because of some recent situations that constantly make me feel like I'm about to just start crying. I can relate to this song so much, as I'm sure most high school students can. Although I love this song very much, I understand that there are better things to come and my life won't always feel this rough. I'm just at the bottom of the rollercoaster, and hopefully I'll be building my way back up soon.

  1. I remember back in 5th grade where Simple Plan was the band to listen too. I can relate to it kinda of because at the time when I started listening to them, we were about to move and I didn't want to move away from my friends. I hated the thought of moving, but in the end moving to Iola was the best decision my parents could've made for us. Things seemed bad, but it all turned out better in the end.
